The Interactive Media Lab (IML) at UNSW School of Art & Design researches and teaches emerging media technologies and their application in creative work. Its co-directors are Dr Ollie Bown and Dr Patricia Flanagan.
The lab’s research areas include:

- data visualisation
- media architecture and media facades
- spatial audio
- wearable technology
- biofeedback
- music and performance technology
- the potential for creative agency in machines

- ZOTAC Mini PC’s for mobile and outdoor installations x 4

- RME Fireface and a RME Octamic II - 8 Channel Microphone Preamp
- BARE conductive touch boards x 9

UNSW School of Art & Design has one elective in Interactive Media open to undergraduate students:
The Interaction Design stream is open to students enrolled in a Master of Design or Fine Arts. There are:
two introductory courses: SDES9311 Interaction Design Foundations and SDES9312 Human-Centred Design Methods
two advanced studios: SDES9315 Tangible Interfaces and Interactive Displays and SDES9316 Wearable & Bio-Sensing Interactions.
