The final year of your Design, Fine Arts or Media Arts Honours degree provides the opportunity to bring together all you have learnt over the past three years. It will challenge you to develop further knowledge, skills and capacities relevant to your future as a creative professional and critical practitioner. The final year program prepares you for work and life outside of university by introducing you to the professional contexts of art, design and media, and supporting you to undertake major studio projects.
The year focuses on two major activities: developing and situating your studio practice through the Honours Research Projects and undertaking real world professional experience with the Professional Experience Project (PEP).
The individual Honours Research Projects will be undertaken in an intensive small group-learning environment under the direction of cluster leaders. They will assist you in planning, developing and delivering your project/s. The Professional Experience Project will help you apply this knowledge to your chosen professional contexts while providing valuable industry experience.

Your 2nd elective can also be ADAD4001 Professional Experience B, if you wish to extend your professional experience with an additional 150 hours with that employer or experience.
Fourth Year for students in dual degrees
If you are undertaking a Dual Award, there are some differences:
If you are doing a dual award with Design or Media Arts, then you don’t complete the electives. Please check the Handbook for details.
If you are doing a dual award with Fine Arts, then you don’t complete the Fourth Year at all. If you wish, you can apply to complete this year and take out an Honours degree after you finish your dual award. Please contact the Student Centre for more details.
Honours Research Project
The fourth year Honours Research Projects A and B allow you to critically build on and broaden the knowledge and skills you have gained in your studies over the previous three years. Group discussions, presentations, critiques and workshops, along with access to 4th year common studio space and facilities, will support you in planning and undertaking a research project into an issue, topic or area in art and design. You will also complete studio work along with appropriate documentation.
You will undertake your research project within degree-based research clusters. These clusters will support you to develop, plan and execute your own art or design research project using appropriate research methods with a high level of scholarship. Your cluster class will be the primary supplier of support, supervision and feedback.
Professional Experience Project
Professional Experience A is a flexible capstone course that provides you with an opportunity to work in the creative industries relevant to your studies and apply your academic knowledge in the workplace.
During this course you will develop further professional skills and establish a working relationship with your profession and/or with potential employers, helping you make informed choices about your future career pathways.
