Growthbuilt is running a design competition for a public art project to be rolled out in a building in Surry Hills.
The design competition is targeted to art students, and Growthbuilt are looking for innovation and creativity as well as community input. They would like to touch on heritage items as an element as the site is in a heritage conservation area.
The location is a mixed use building, incorporating ground floor retail space fronting Foveaux St, and separate dual entrances for common room space relative to the New Generation Boarding House on the above 5 storeys, comprising of 32 rooms.
Growthbuilt will provide images of existing brick walls and subject areas, as well as an idea of what they are after as inspiration. For example:
- Street art
- Innovative artistic expression
- Touch on history – heritage conservation area
- Integrate the boarding house name into design (TheG)
Ideas should aim to be ecologically, socially and economically sustainable, complement the setting, and able to be readily implemented. Each submission will be assessed according to the idea, response to the site and location, degree of innovation demonstrated by the applicant, aesthetic appeal, and ease of implementation.
