Would you and your friends like to set up and run a professional gallery space?
Working in partnership with Bridging Hope Charity Foundation and led by 'Artists-for-Artists' organisation Brand X, UNSW Art & Design is calling for expressions of interest (EOIs) from current students and alumni to develop a new contemporary art and/or design gallery in the St Leonards Creative Precinct in northern Sydney.
This EOI process is open to UNSW students, staff and alumni, with Masters of Curating and Cultural Leadership (MCCL) students and graduates particularly encouraged to apply.
Given the complexity and commitment required to develop and operate a gallery space, collaborative team approaches to this opportunity are preferred.
As a pilot initiative, the gallery will operate for a period of one year and the successful team will be required to develop and deliver an artistic/exhibition program, including identifying artists/designers, delivery of exhibitions and full responsibility for financial and operational management of the venue.
The successful team will be provided with a free gallery space on Atchison Street in St Leonards including power, telephone and internet connections. A budget of $4,000 is available to support the establishment and operations of the gallery.
The gallery will be officially launched as part the St Leonards Creative Precinct Festival in March 2018.
The successful winners of the EOI process will be mentored throughout by the highly experienced Brand X team led by James Winter.
Expressions of interest (EOIs) have been extended now and close at 5pm on Wednesday 7 March.
EOIs are expected to provide an overview of how your team will approach starting up a new gallery space and are required to include the following information:
WHAT: Gallery name, vision, objectives, products and services.
WHY: Identify the market, your point-of-difference and the perceived need.
WHO: Introduce your team’s experience and strengths.
HOW: Discuss strategies to engage and sustain a local audience and potential partners/collaborators/sponsors/suppliers.
For further information, advice and guidance on how to apply contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Final EOIs will be reviewed by Brand X.
About Brand X
Brand X is a not for profit arts organisation run by Artists for Artists that makes space for the performing, recording and visual art communities to practice their craft. We are driven by the belief that Artists, when given appropriate space to develop their craft, inspire a renewed sense of belonging, harmony and pride of place for the entire community. Since 2005, Brand X supports Artists by re-purposing underutilised properties in Sydney through relationships with Property Developers, Landlords and Local Governments. We transform empty spaces into cultural places including rehearsal and recording studios, galleries and creative retail, food and beverage, event and performance spaces. By providing Independent Artists with support while reinvigorating local communities we stimulate a vibrant cultural life for Sydney and its residents.
