The Blake Prize is one of Australia’s most recognized art awards. In fact, it is actually four awards that acknowledge creative endeavour in the fields of art and poetry, and which revolve around the universal themes of human justice and belief.
The $25,000 Blake Prize, the $5,000 John Coburn Emerging Artist Award, the $5,000 Maritime Workers’ Union Blake Prize for Human Justice, and the $5,000 Blake Poetry Prize will be presented in cooperation with UNSW Art & Design and the NSW Writers’ Centre.
As always, the Blake Prize takes submissions from a wide spectrum of creative disciplines including painting, sculpture, video art, and poetry. The goal is to encourage greater questioning of thought, belief and artistic practice.
The finalists for 2014 will be presented in the Blake Prize Exhibition at UNSW Galleries on the 13th December.
According to the judges, the winners will be selected based on outstanding interpretation of humanity and contemporary religiosity and spirituality.
The three judges for 2014 are Anne Ferran (Artist), Alexie Glass-Kantor (Executive Director, Artspace), and Dr Alex Norman (Lecturer, Studies in Religion, University of Sydney).
Please join us to celebrate the finalists in this year’s Blake Prize exhibition.
Official exhibition opening and announcement of winners: Saturday 13 December, 3-5pm.
