'Terms of Engagement: Examining the Rhetoric of Radicalisation' brings together recent works by Abdul Abdullah exploring the representation and perception of minorities, specifically Muslims, in contemporary society.
This body of work critically examines perceptions of marginalised people in a contemporary multicultural Australian context, focusing on the projection of criminality on people who identify or are identified as Muslim. Through photographic portraiture, Abdullah depicts imagined manifestations that reflect popular understandings of young Muslims from a non-Muslim perspective. By reflecting and emphasising these points of view, Abdullah challenges viewers to examine their own biases.
Abdul Abdullah is a high profile, early career, multidisciplinary artist whose work has featured in recent national exhibitions including 'Primavera 2015' at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney.
