First Friday: Living Here Now - Cities explores how we attempt to navigate the complex layers of urban landscapes while maintaining an individual’s right to the city. The artists and architects included in the June First Fridays program investigate modes of urbanism, community-minded living and ground-roots activism to determine how we live in our cities.
First Friday: Living Here Now - Cities activates UNSW Galleries’ current exhibition Shelter Union to propose new approaches for living in the 21st century: artist Tony Adams will provide nourishment with Spicycle, a chai station made from recycled bicycles, and Sydney collective The Lot will be accepting your unsolicited proposals for Millers Point and Barangaroo. Architect Ainslie Murray from UNSW Built Environment will create an interactive water-soluble cityscape for exploration by visitors on the night.
UNSW Galleries is also partnering with xCommunicate and Vivid ideas to present an extended program of events including 'Discussions in Space' and 'Sisygambis', a live VJ performance by French artist Christine Coulange.
This is a free event. Beer, wine and food available.
Shelter Union is on until 15 August 2015 as part of the Living Here Now series.
First Fridays is a recently launched regular program of curated events at UNSW Galleries. Held on the first Friday of each month, the galleries will open after hours to host a series of lively events engaging ideas in contemporary art and culture.
