Join artist Renee So and exhibition curator Charlotte Day for an intimate walkthrough and discussion of ‘Provenance’.
‘Provenance’ is Renee So’s first major exhibition in Australia presenting over a decade of practice distinguished by its embrace of craft methods and cross-cultural thinking, an underlying sense of the comedic, and a persistent feminist worldview. Together they will lead you through the exhibition, discussing significant works and key developments within So’s practice from early motifs of bearded men and masculine archetypes to later representations of women’s bodies and observations of elginism.
Renee So is a London based artist, born in Hong Kong and raised in Australia. Her practice weaves together a pattern of cross-cultural references from prehistoric Europe to ancient China and Egypt in caricatural figures and playful observations. So’s work encompasses ceramic, print and textile, drawing from an array of art history and anthropomorphic ceramicware.
Charlotte Day is one of Australia’s leading art curators, directors, and managers, working with prominent institutions and individuals to commission new work, develop impactful art programming and build significant contemporary collections. She is passionate about art-led education and bringing the art of established as well as more emerging artists to the public eye and conversation.
