Stan de Teliga (b.1924), artist and educator, immigrated to Australia with his Polish parents in 1926. Following his service in the war, he earned his diploma from Sydney's National Art School in 1951 and subsequently became a tutor in art at the University of Sydney. His career then led him to spend six years in Hobart as a keeper at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.
From 1960 to 1966, de Teliga served as the director of the Blaxland Gallery, and later, from 1966 to 1974, he joined the faculty at the National Art School, eventually assuming the role of its head for a brief period. He transitioned to become a senior lecturer at Alexander Mackie College and the City Art Institute. De Teliga's artistic legacy is reflected in his vibrant abstracted landscapes, which are housed in prestigious institutions such as the National Gallery of Australia, various state galleries, as well as numerous institutional and regional collections.
