Public lecture: Drew Berry
- When 14 Oct - 14 Oct 2014
Lecture theatre: EG02, Paddington Campus, Cnr Oxford St & Greens Rd, Paddington
Biomedical animator Drew Berry will present his work and discuss the intersections of art and science in his practice. Berry creates biomedical animations that combine cinema and science to reveal the microscopic worlds inside our bodies.
Beginning his career as a cell biologist and microscopist at the University of Melbourne, Berry brings a rigorous scientific approach to every topic, immersing himself in research, current data and the latest discoveries. Since 1995 he has been a biomedical animator at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne.
His animations have been exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum, MoMA New York, the Royal Institute of Great Britain and the University of Geneva. In 2010 he received a MacArthur Fellowship ‘genius grant’.
The lecture will conclude with a discussion with researchers from the Garvan Institute of Medical Research.
Immediately following the lecture, you are invited to join the artist and researchers for an informal reception and exhibition viewing of Body Image at UNSW Galleries.
