We know that the decision about where to study is a big one and takes time.

At UNSW Art & Design (previously known as COFA) we would like to help make this process just a little easier.

If you have students interested in becoming designers, filmmakers, artists, animators, media artists, digital innovators or curators, then UNSW Art & Design is the place for them. Let us tell you why…

We know there are a series of key factors that influence prospective student decision-making. These include;

  • Reputation of the institution.
  • Quality and range of creative degrees and disciplines available.
  • Access to the best equipment, training and support offered on campus (including IT, tools and equipment, special skills and access to state-of-the-art art, design and digital media studios).
  • Opportunities for internships and professional experience placements integrated into degree programs.
  • Different methods of admission into the degree programs such as Portfolio entry to complement your traditional UAC ATAR application.
  • A record of career success and pathways taken by graduates across the creative industries including Art, Design and Multimedia nationally and internationally.

Our campus and location

Our campus has been designed for art and design education in the 21st century. It houses everything today’s emerging creative practitioner needs to realise their potential.  We offer more than 300+ art studios, 300+ design and digital media studios, 400+ computers (installed with professional standard software), and we have Resource Centres to support all these things.

Our campus is based in the inner-city Sydney neighbourhood of Paddington.  We are surrounded by like-minded creative agencies, including design studios, art galleries, creative incubators, museums, bookstores, movie theatres, and fashion outlets.

Technical Support Services

UNSW Art & Design offers access to more than 20,000 items of machinery and tools including cameras, video, sound equipment and computers. Students receive induction and training in the use of tools, equipment and machinery and can then freely borrow and use this unmatched range of creative equipment.

The Resource Centre houses more than 10,000 items of film, camera, video and sound gear.  All are viewable online and available for check-out for students to realise their creative vision.

The Toolroom supports every creative degree by providing the specialised tools required to build and make art and design works in every conceivable media.  More than 10,000 tools are available for check-out by students.

The IT Centre provides expert assistance for all digital and computer equipment on our dynamic campus.

Internship Opportunities

Of equal importance to the pursuit of individual creativity while studying, is the ability to access real creative career pathways in art, design, digital media or theory after you graduate.

At UNSW Art & Design we are committed to ensuring our graduates are job-ready and prepared for the changing creative future.  We have structured all of our undergraduate degree programs to incorporate internships and professional work placement experiences in art, design, and media industries throughout Australia and internationally.

Methods of entry

ATAR & Portfolio Applications accepted

UNSW Art & Design recognises that creative talent demonstrates itself in many ways, and because of this we enrol students who have great ATARs and those who have produced outstanding art, design, multimedia and written work and portfolios.

ATAR

If you have a sufficient ATAR you can gain direct entry into our programs through UAC.

Portfolio Entry

If you have an ATAR that’s within 10 points of entry to our programs, we encourage you to submit a Portfolio showcasing your art, design, digital or written work. A Portfolio can boost your chances of entry into our courses . Please note all applicants must apply through UAC listing UNSW Art & Design as their preference and portfolio admission supports this application process.

Key Dates for Portfolio Entry

Portfolio Entry is open now and closes on 12 December.

Late applications are accepted until midnight on 7 January 2015. Please note late applicants may not be assessed for main round.
